The System Management Console provides a Java based GUI console to edit system configuration files. The SMC is plugin based and allows a system administrator to add or remove configuration plugins designed for specific tasks (Apache configuration, BIND configuration, /etc system files). The SMC operates on XML data that is imported from and exported to standard configuration files.
The SMC currently runs on the Merlot XML editor with a SMC plugin. The import and export filters are written in Perl. The Merlot project can be found at http://www.merlotxml.org.
